"Do what you love and the money will follow," goes the popular saying.
The instructors at the Mon Valley YMCA did just that. They held a "Sweat for a Cure" on Oct. 10, 2014, during several of their classes and donated the $450 raised to the 11th Annual Monongahela Valley Hospital/Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk on Oct. 11.
"Since exercise reduces the risk for breast cancer and so many diseases, it seems fitting to encourage people to exercise while raising funds to fight the disease," said Mon Valley YMCA Health and Fitness Director Peggy Herforth.
Participants made donations in classes on the eve of the MVH/Ducoeur Walk.
Ms. Herforth said that everyone knows someone affected by breast cancer and that's why she and her instructors and YMCA members are so passionate about holding this event.
MVH Director of Fund Development, Melissa Marion said that she was touched and surprised by this great grass roots story of people doing what they love to make the world a better place.
"We appreciate the constant support the YMCA gives the hospital," she added.
