Why is a six-foot-tall light switch stationed in the lobby of Monongahela Valley Hospital? It will be used to switch on several acres of lights at the hospital's 30th Annual Light-Up Night, a Mon Valley holiday tradition that will take place Monday, Nov. 24, at 6:30 p.m. in the hospital's outdoor Central Plaza. The free family event includes free hot cocoa, treats for the children, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, Frosty the Snowman, caroling with the Charleroi High School Show Choir and Charleroi High School Band leading Santa's sleigh into the plaza. The Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc. will also sell baked goods, hot dogs and punch. Shown with the switch - which will be moved outside Monday - are MVH Maintenance Mechanic Mark Kirchner and Maintenance Supervisor Mark Pagliari, who designed and fabricated the switch in 2011.
