MVH Offers First Lung Cancer Screening and Educational Program

(November 2, 2015 - Carroll Township, Pa.)

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Lung Cancer is the leading cancer killer in both men and women in the United States. According to the American Lung Association, in 1987 it surpassed breast cancer to become the leading cause of cancer deaths in women. Lung cancer causes more deaths than colorectal, breast and prostate cancers combined. An estimated 158,040 are expected to die from lung cancer in 2015, accounting for approximately 27 percent of all cancer deaths.

Monongahela Valley Hospital will host its first Lung Cancer Screening Educational Program on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m. in the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center. During the free session, participants will learn about the importance of early detection as well as recent advancements in early detection and treatments. Speakers include: Andrew Zahalsky, M.D., director of Medical Oncology; Surinder Aneja, M.D., Internal/Pulmonary Medicine; and Radiologist Adil Chaudry, M.D.

For reservations, call 724-258-1333.
