Free Nutrition Classes Can Enrich One's Health
(August 28, 2013 - Carroll Township, Pa.)
Did you know that a normal sandwich actually doubles your portion of bread? One serving of bread is only one piece, not two.
If this is news to you, have no fear, Monongahela Valley Hospital will host the Nutrition Building Blocks program to help enrich the community's understanding of good nutrition.
This three-day program will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, 12 and 19 at 11 a.m. at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX in Rostraver. The classes are one hour each and are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required.
"The Nutrition Building Blocks program will explore the basics of nutrition and help promote a healthy diet and a lifestyle," said Michele Pfarr, RD, LDN, and clinical nutrition manager at Monongahela Valley Hospital. "Nutrition is an important part of our lives and there is so much to learn about your body and what it truly needs."
The class schedule is as follows: Sept. 5, calorie intake and exercise; Sept. 12, reading food labels and portion control, and Sept. 19, tips on eating in restaurants.
During the program, registered Clinical Dietitian Julie Sulkowski, RD, LDN, will discuss the importance of a healthy diet and how to feed one's body the correct way. Participants will learn to read and understand food labels as well as learning the importance of portion control.
