Auxiliary presents major donation to
Monongahela Valley Hospital

Ruth Antonelli, president of the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Resources,
Inc., presents three checks to Louis J. Panza Jr., president
and CEO of Monongahela Valley Hospital. With the Auxiliary’s
contribution to the hospital’s annual Gala and the group’s
Volunteen program, the Auxiliary’s donation this year
totals $92,000.

During the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc.’s
34th annual dinner, members received awards for reaching volunteer
hour milestones at Monongahela Valley Hospital.
Sitting, from left are Dolly Gaudio, who was recognized for
10,000 volunteer hours, while Mary Garris received the Life
Membership Award for 25+ years of service. Standing in the
front row, from left are Sandy McLuckie and Joyce Armstrong
with 2,500 service hours; Patricia Mikula, Priscilla Dorazio
and Ruth Antonelli each gave 1,000 hours of service. Back
row, from left are recipients with 500 hours of service: Joanne

Gail Jericho with 500 hours were absent.

The members of the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale
Health Resources Inc. give their time, energy, and creativity year
round to enhance quality patient care at Monongahela Valley Hospital.
On June 25, at the 34th annual Auxiliary Appreciation Dinner celebrating
the volunteers, the group collectively gave even more.
The Auxiliary made a substantial donation
to MVH when its President Ruth Antonelli presented three checks
totaling $90,000 to MVH President and CEO Louis J. Panza Jr. When
combined with the funds the group donated to the hospital’s
annual gala in May and to the annual Volunteen Scholarship, the
Auxiliary’s 2012 donation climbs to $92,000.
This year’s gift brings the Auxiliary’s
34-year donation total to MVH to more than $3 million.
“On behalf of our board of trustees,
employees, physicians and most of all, the patients whose lives
you touch every day, I want to express our sincere appreciation
for the vital role that the Auxiliary members play in our delivery
of excellent care,” said Mr. Panza as he accepted the checks.
“There are many ways that this donation can enhance patient
care at Monongahela Valley Hospital.”
The group generated the funds for this donation
through sales at the MVH Gift Shop and with a multitude of special
events held throughout the year, including the Annual Strawberry
Festival, an ice cream social, clothes and purse sales, a murder-mystery
dinner theater and the Annual Apple Fall Festival.
During the celebration, awards were also presented
to Auxiliary members who reached milestone hours of volunteer time
at MVH. Recipients included:
• Mary Garris of New Eagle,
Life Membership Award (25 years+ service)
• Dolly Gaudio of Monessen, 10,000 hours
• Joyce Armstrong of Dunlevy, 2,500 hours
• Carolyn Barger of Monongahela, 2,500 hours
• Sandy McLuckie of Charleroi, 2,500 hours
• Ruth Antonelli of Belle Vernon, 1,000 hours
• Patricia Mikula of Monessen, 1,000 hours
• Priscilla Dorazio of Monessen, 1,000 hours
• Barb Bigi of Charleroi, 500 hours
• Nancy Eckert of Monongahela, 500 hours
• Dorothy Gallagher of Charleroi, 500 hours
• Gail Jericho of Donora, 500 hours
• Helen Litavec of Roscoe, 500 hours
• Joanne Pireaux of N. Charleroi, 500 hours
The auxiliary also presented $500 Volunteen
Scholarships to two outstanding young people who volunteered at
the hospital for a combined 700 hours. Eligible applicants were
in the top on third of their graduating class, volunteered at least
100 hours over two years and plan to pursue a health care related
career.
The first scholarship was awarded to Alyssa
Mae Hamilton, a recent graduate of Elizabeth Forward. A resident
of Monongahela, Miss Hamilton volunteered 500 hours over four years
in the Medical Oncology department. She plans to pursue a career
in nursing at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
The second Volunteen Scholarship was presented
to Belle Vernon Area High School graduate Kari Ann Spear. Miss Spear
plans to pursue a career in nursing at Malone University in Canton,
Ohio. She has volunteered at MVH for the past four years for a total
of 200 hours in three different departments. including infection
control. She lives in Belle Vernon.
After the awards presentation, Auxiliary officers
for the 2012-2014 term were installed. They are:

Lusk of Monongahela; Vice-President: Patricia Mikula of Monessen;
Recording Secretary: Mary Lou Mudrick of Charleroi; Corresponding
Secretary: Dolly Gaudio of Monessen; Treasurer: Sandy McLuckie of
Charleroi; Recording Treasurer/Gift Shop Chairperson: Ruthann Dulovich
of Monongahela; Finance Officer: Mary Garris of New Eagle; Assistant
to the Finance Officer: Lillian Nard of Belle Vernon; Assistant
Treasurer: Georgetta Wiles of Belle Vernon
