MVH's Cancer Survivors Day Picnic on June 7

(May 19, 2015 - Carroll Township, Pa.)

Southwestern Pennsylvania's summer concert season is heating up and Monongahela Valley Hospital's (MVH) Central Plaza will be one of the hot spots. On Sunday, June 7, the Granati Brothers, who toured in the 1980s and '90s as G-Force, will perform a free concert at the Hospital during MVH's Cancer Survivors Day Picnic.

The Granati Brothers are classic rock artists whose harmonies entertained audiences at 78 sold-out concerts with Van Halen in the '80s. They have also performed with Bruce Springsteen, J. Geils, the Doobie Brothers, Sammy Haggar, Heart, Peter Frampton, Boston, Def Leppard, Southside Johnny, Dionne Warwick, and many others at venues across the United States.

Festivities will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. under a tent in the Hospital's Central Plaza area rain or shine. A free picnic lunch (hamburgers, hot dogs and salads) will be provided to all attendees. In addition to the concert, tours of the Regional Cancer Center will be offered and there will be games for children. Andrew J. Zahalsky, M.D., director of Medical Oncology at MVH, and Louis J. Panza Jr., president and CEO of MVH, will offer brief remarks at 2 p.m.

All cancer survivors - even those who received treatment at other facilities - and their family and friends are invited to attend the picnic. The event, which is a celebration of life, also marks the 30th anniversary of MVH's Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion and Regional Cancer Center. The Center was the first of its kind in Washington, Fayette and Greene counties and remains one of the largest in Western Pennsylvania. The Center provides comprehensive cancer treatments including radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Among the many advanced therapies offered are: High-Dose Radiation Therapy, Image-Guided Radiation Therapy, Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Volumetric Arc Therapy.

While the event is free, reservations are required. For reservations, call 724-258-1333.
