HEALTHY DIRECTIONS RELOCATES SERVICES IN FINLEYVILLE

Open House Planned for Wednesday, August 13

Monongahela Valley Hospital’s Healthy Directions health education and resource center enhanced its efforts to provide wellness awareness in the community with a new modern facility that opened this June.

The service moved from 3547 Washington Avenue to 6116 Brownsville Road Extension into Suite 107 of the Martik Office Complex. The hours and days did not change. Healthy Directions is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday with its on-site laboratory services for blood and urine analysis open from 7 a.m. to noon on those same days.

According to Marilynn Taylor, CMA, manager of Healthy Directions, the new facility offers convenient parking and easy access. Its focus remains on health care education and wellness for residents of the community. She emphasized that Healthy Directions does not function as an emergency room or clinic.

“The new site in Finleyville is a place to learn,” Mrs. Taylor, who coordinates programs at Healthy Directions, stated. “It is a community resource center where you can learn how to stay well, how to prevent illness. The name, Healthy Directions, really says it all – it points the way to the many ways you can enjoy a healthier life. We will celebrate those ways with an Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 13. The public is invited to attend and we hope they will come and see all we have to offer.”

A doctor’s prescription is required for all laboratory tests conducted at Healthy Directions. Blood drawn and urine specimens collected at the Finleyville station will be tested at the Laboratory at Monongahela Valley Hospital and results of the testing will be sent to the physician designated by the patient.

Healthy Directions also offers a variety of wellness screenings – such as blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol – and health education programs featuring doctors, nurses and other health care professionals from Monongahela Valley Hospital, as well as persons from the community.

In addition to special programs and screenings, Healthy Directions features a health education resource library of books, brochures, videos and other information. A referral service also is available as well as private health education counseling. Monthly calendars of events are published and made available to the public.

Mrs. Taylor emphasized that input from the public is welcome as to desired programs and topics at Healthy Directions.

“Everyone wants to be healthy,” she said. “The more you learn about your own health, the better you will feel. At Healthy Directions, our goal is to provide the answers to all those questions people – people of all ages – have about their health. We will offer information on how you and your family can enjoy a healthy and safe lifestyle.”
