MVH
TO HOST
FAMILY FUN IN THE VALLEY
A
community-focused group of organizations
will sponsor the fourth annual
Family Fun in the Valley
on Friday, August 1, from noon to 4 p.m.
on the Monongahela Valley Hospital campus.
This family oriented event will focus on educational and
nutritional activities for the entire family and is sponsored
by Community Action Southwest, Women Infants and Children,
Monongahela Valley Hospital and the American Respiratory
Alliance of Western PA.
Special guests include Stuffee from the Children’s
Museum of Pittsburgh, the Be Cool penguin and Washington
Wild Things mascots.
Activities include a climbing wall, live cooking demonstrations,
fire truck and ambulance tours and sand art creation.
More than 25 exhibitors will be on hand providing information,
prizes and activities.
“Nothing like this continues to be done on an annual
basis in the mid-Mon Valley,” said Leisa Shawley,
Outreach Coordinator for Community Action Southwest (CAS)
and co-chair of Family Fun in the Valley. “This will
be our fourth year for Family Fun in the Valley and we continue
to offer exciting and popular information, products and
activities. Carroll Township Police will provide gun locks.
Mon Valley Education Consortium’s popular reading
corner will be back this year along with the PA Department
of Health’s Safety Smoke House to inform children
about fire prevention in your home. We will also have a
tent set up on the MVH campus so we can provide events both
inside and outside,” she said.
“We at MVH are excited for the opportunity to work
with our mid-Mon Valley partners to offer these family services
because of our commitment to expanding our pediatric and
adolescent services at MVH,” said Anita Leonard, Project
Consultant at MVH and co-chair of Family Fun in the Valley.
“More than 200 people turned out for the event last
year and, with more exhibits, prizes and activities, we
hope to repeat that number this year,” she noted.
“This provides a wonderful venue in one location
to educate parents on child health and safety and to provide
information on contacts and resources in the area. And we
do it in an environment that makes it easy for parents to
attend with their children,” Leonard said.
Free parking
and refreshments
for community guests will be provided.
