Monongahela Valley Hospital To Host Seminar on Hospice and Palliative Care

Hospice and Palliative Care will be the topic of a free seminar Thursday, Nov. 14, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH).
The program will include two distinguished speakers in the fields of palliative care followed by a panel discussion. Daniel A. Iracki, M.D., whose specialties include palliative care, internal medicine and pulmonary medicine, will discuss "Ethical Conversations Between Patients, Families and Physicians About Hospice: How and When to Have Them." Vickie Carolla, director of operations for Amedisys Home Health Care, will address "Myths, Facts and Tips for Hospice." The panel will include Dr. Iracki and Ms. Carolla as well as Father John Fiero, from the True Vine Anglican Church and coordinator of the MVH On-Call Chaplains Program and families of patients who have experienced palliative care and/or hospice.
A multidisciplinary team from MVH that includes nurses, administrators, pharmacists and social workers has teamed with community health care professionals to plan the seminar. It is ideal for nurses, social workers, case managers and administrators of nursing and personal care homes.
A continental breakfast will be served. Parking is free in Monongahela Valley Hospital's parking garage.
