Monongahela Valley Hospital Honors Its Volunteers
(August 9, 2016 - Carroll Township, Pa.)
Monongahela Valley Hospital honored the hospital's nearly 150 volunteers during its 2016 Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on August 5. Among those in attendance were the men and women who serve as "Ask Me" Greeters and On-Call Chaplains. This year, also recognized for their service were those members of the community who handcraft and donate "dignity robes" for cancer patients as members of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, and those who donate clothing and patient items as members of The Clothes Closet and the Victory Hill Ladies Auxiliary.
"Our volunteers are very special people," said Erin Sinko, MVH's manager of Concierge Services. "They so freely give of their time to help our patients and visitors."
Visitors encounter volunteers from the minute they enter the hospital lobby. "Ask Me" Greeters are frequently by the door welcoming everyone who enters and providing directions when needed. The volunteers also help throughout the hospital campus in many departments such as Medical Imaging, Same Day Surgery and Escort as well as on the Nursing Units and in The Orthopedic Institute. The volunteer chaplains are also an important part of the MVH team by providing spiritual support to patients, visitors and hospital employees.
During the luncheon, as a special recognition this year, each volunteer chaplain received a personal inscribed crystal award that was provided courtesy of Garry Mrozek, owner of Hometown Pharmacy Solutions, and his daughter, Stephanie Mrozek, R.Ph. who operates Dierkens Pharmacy, in Monongahela. During its annual Gala in May, MVH honored the chaplains with the Rossomme Award for Dimensions in Volunteer Service for their untiring service to the Hospital's patients and staff. The Rev. John Fierro, retired rector of True Vine Anglican Church, who acts as the liaison between the Hospital staff and the chaplains, accepted the award at the Gala on behalf of the chaplains. Through the generosity of Mr. Mrozek and his daughter, the individual awards were purchased to honor the chaplains.
