Laurie S. Molinda, M.D.
(April 8, 2013 - Carroll Township, Pa.)

On May 6, Laurie S. Molinda, M.D., who specializes in internal medicine, opened an office in Finleyville in the Martik Plaza on Brownsville Road Extension. Recently, Dr. Molinda talked with our editor to discuss internal medicine, her background and what she sees in the future for medicine.

Q. What is internal medicine?
A. Internal medicine is the study of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adults.

Q. What made you want to be a doctor and why did you specialize in internal medicine?
A. I enjoy interacting with patients and families. I love solving the puzzles that diagnosis often brings. I also like presenting information in an easy-to-understand way.

Q. Why did you select Finleyville as the place to open your office?
A. This is an area of intense need for a primary care physician. My office site on Brownsville Road Extension represents a good junction of the Finleyville, South Park and Peters Township areas.

Q. Did you have a practice before opening your Finleyville office?
A. Yes, my practice was Health Works in Canonsburg, Pa.

Q. With which hospitals are you affiliated?
A. I am affiliated with Monongahela Valley Hospital.

Q. When will you see patients?
A. My office hours are: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Q. Do you perform any testing in your office?
A. Yes, patients can have vision and hearing tests, blood draws, urinalysis, urine drug testing, pulmonary function testing, EKGs and general vital signs. General gynecological and pap smears and mole removals also are offered.

Q. Where do you direct patients when you are not in the office?
A. Depending on the need, there is a nurse practitioner 24 hours a day to answer questions and prescribe medications if necessary. In the evenings and on weekends, Healthy Directions at Giant Eagle is a convenient option for non-urgent medical care. Also, if urgent care is needed, patients can go to Monongahela Valley Hospital's Emergency Department.

Q. What insurance do you accept?
A. I accept almost all insurance.

Q. Where did you go to medical school?
A. I went to the Medical College of Virginia.

Q. Where do you live?
A. I live in South Fayette.

Q. Do you have a family?
A. I have been married for 22 years and have three children ages 20, 18 and 15.

Q. What are your hobbies?
A. I enjoy traveling, biking, reading and spending time with my family.

Q. Will we see you at local events?
A. I hope to be able to attend events in the community.
