Mamm & Glamm on April 18 Encourages Women to Know their Breast Cancer Risks

(March 13, 2015 - Carroll Township, Pa.)

By adding a soothing atmosphere and some glamour to the process of getting a mammogram, more local woman have been encouraged to have their annual preventative screening at HealthPLEX Imaging in Rostraver.

The staff will host the 3rd Annual Mamm & Glamm on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX at 800 Plaza Drive. The event offers women who have prescriptions for mammograms the opportunity to have their screening and then to enjoy free pampering services such as massages and paraffin hand wax treatments. Staff will provide a light breakfast and lunch, plus chocolate and other refreshments.

"Prevention is so important in detecting breast cancer and woman really like this program. We've reached many who were postponing their exams or who had never had a mammogram, and that's excellent, that's our mission," said Mary Ann Konsugar, HealthPLEX Imaging manager.

The facility also offers 3-D mammograms, which improve the ability to detect breast cancer in dense breasts and generally lower the amount of callbacks and additional tests. Not all mammograms are 3-D; prescriptions must specify if a 3-D mammogram is required and women should check if their insurance covers the new 3-D technology.

Ms. Konsugar said that HealthPLEX Imaging follows national guidelines from the American Cancer Society, American College of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging, which all recommend yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing as long as a woman is in good health.

"Women ages 20 to 39 should have a clinical breast exam about every three years by their physician," she added. "Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, and mammograms have helped reduce deaths from breast cancer in this country by 30 percent."

Appointments and prescriptions are required. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call 724-379-1911.
